N.C. Department of Labor Commissioner Josh Dobson presented GoTriangle with a Gold Award at the agency's Safety Awards Banquet June 3 in Raleigh. The award recognizes GoTriangle and our employees for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.

The Gold Award is GoTriangle’s first – we already have six Silver NCDOL Safety Awards – and is based on GoTriangle’s low rate of job absences, restricted activities or job transfers related to on-the-job injuries. Administered through the NCDOL’s Occupational Safety and Health Division’s Education, Training and Technical Assistance Bureau, the Safety Awards Program recognizes private and public firms that maintain good safety records. The program is designed to promote accident prevention and safety in the workplace by providing an incentive to employers and employees to maintain a safe and healthful workplace.

GoTriangle adds this latest award to our growing list of safety recognitions. In 2013, our agency earned designation as a Public Section Star site, a designation that is maintained by submitting an annual safety report to NCDOL. In 2021, GoTriangle reported four employee injuries, a 33 percent decrease in workplace injuries compared with 2020.

“We are doing a great job of reducing accidents that result in injuries,” says GoTriangle Manager of Safety, Security, and Training Jimmy Price. “This latest achievement and our designation as a Public Sector Star site result from having an effective accident prevention program based on our numbers of healthy employees and having a healthy workplace. Our employees made this happen because they are committed to reducing workplace injuries to zero. Keep up the good work!”

Employees are encouraged to report hazards or unsafe conditions in the workplace to a supervisor or the Safety Department at safetyreporting@gotriangle.org.
