GoTriangle awarded excellence in financial reporting for 28th year

Long-term commitment and transparency in any sphere seems a rare commodity these days. But for the 28th straight year, GoTriangle has brought home the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada last week awarded GoTriangle – formally known as the Research Triangle Regional Public Transportation Authority – the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The award recognized GoTriangle for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021.

Through a voluntary program, all North Carolina municipalities, counties and public authorities may submit an annual comprehensive financial report to the association’s award program. For fiscal year 2020 – the latest fiscal year for which statistics are available – only 17 percent (203 units) participated and received the award.

“This is by no means an easy award to achieve for one year,” said GoTriangle CEO and President Charles Lattuca. “But for nearly three decades, GoTriangle’s finance staff have demonstrated their commitment to financial excellence and transparency. We commend them.”

In notifying GoTriangle of the award, the association said that its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a public authority and its management. The association noted further that GoTriangle’s report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story.

Chief Financial Officer Saundra Freeman said she thanks the entire Finance and Administrative team for their hard work and commitment to ensure that GoTriangle exhibits excellence in our financial reporting.

“Our team leads, Ren Wiles, senior accountant, and Jennifer Hayden, assistant director, work tirelessly each year to lead our audit and annual reporting, and we appreciate their efforts that result in GoTriangle being the recipients of this reward," Freeman said.
