Streets at Southpoint park-and-ride customers are reminded to park only in designated area

Research Triangle Park, NC (Nov. 27, 2019) – GoTriangle is reminding customers who use the free park-and-ride lot at the Streets at Southpoint mall to use only the 147 designated spots near the movie theater.

The general area is marked by metal signs reading: “Reserved for park and ride use during non-holiday weekdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.” The individual spots are not actually marked, but Southpoint management recently added orange cones around the area.

Southpoint mall management is strictly enforcing the limit and threatening to tow any cars of transit customers parked outside the designated zone. GoTriangle has recently offered to buy additional spaces from Southpoint to make more room for transit customers, but that offer has not been accepted.

The city of Durham required Southpoint owners to include designated park-and-ride spaces for transit customers as part of their zoning permit.

GoTriangle is urging customers to review the park-and-ride map, pay attention to the signs and cones installed by mall management and park only within the designated area. Riders are also reminded that 67 additional park-and-ride spots are available at a neighboring lot in front of the Home Goods store at Renaissance Village, marked by additional park-and-ride signs. There is an additional bus stop on Renaissance Parkway adjacent to that lot.

Southpoint management also plans to move all bus routes and stops out of the mall parking lot and onto Renaissance Parkway. Significant construction is already underway for that project, but an estimated completion date is unknown. GoTriangle will provide details and timelines once they are available.
